![]() ![]() ![]() I thought charging a Breakaway battery would be a high priority. Any bonus multiplier is based on the base rate of collecting CT Money. I will give that a go over the weekend anyway and report back.Īfter all the searching, I was surprised I didnt find a similar issue and had to ask the question. You cannot collect paper Canadian Tire Money on bonus offers. That would be 12v supply, not from the alternator at a higher voltage. So, would I run a new wire from the trailer plug (aux - pin 2) directly to the +ve on the Breakaway battery? I would like to stick with the 7 pin plug, as I have other trailers to plug in, and this plant trailer is used by others also.īlackhole - you say the 12 pin socket will take the 7 pin plug? something to think about. Just got the trailer so haven't studied it too close yet. I dont know if the circuit board has any voltage rectification for charging. For those of us who have a 'break away' battery mounted on the trailer, how often should it be recharged and what is the easiest way to charge it The battery on our enclosed is underneath the front of the trailer in a small box which looks like a pain to get open. My concern there was if I supply aux power through the Breakaway circuit board it would apply full brakes again as it did previously. I did think about using the pin 2 from the Hilux. How do I supply positive feed to charge the breakaway battery outside the breakaway charging control?ĭirtjay Posts: 26 Joined: Mon, 11:59 +0000 When the trailer is plugged into a car with no brake controller, the battery receives a charging current, from the brake light positive feed. I am guessing now they are positively switched, as there is no activity at the plug until brakes applied. When there is no pedal activation there is no current = no supply to keep the battery charged.īrake lights work as expected. So the brake controller sends the variable strength current to the Breakaway control box to power the magnetic actuated brakes. Which would supply a charge to the battery, if wired that way. When connected to the towing vehicle and the vehicle on and/or running, the 12 volt circuit will charge the battery. The charging system has no control over that battery. We offers three different complete breakaway systems to accommodate various trailer sizes and meet your specific towing needs. Then, pop the vehicle’s hood and look at the battery’s terminals. Product Details For any and all types of trailers with electric trailer brakes, a CURT breakaway kit provides you with the equipment you need to be prepared. I do not think by tow vehicle is charging my. ![]() It is only kept floating from that point. The solution: To do that, remember to first turn off the engine and make sure there’s no risk of accidents. A local brake control installer mentioned this could happen but I have not thought to much about it until lately. I am guessing the brake light circuit is switched by earthing, therefore giving a constant feed of positive from the Hilux. The battery should be fully charges before you move the trailer. When I first got the trailer, I had to switch the brake control wire and the brake light wire around.īecause when plugged in, the trailer brakes were on full strength, and no brake light activation.Īt this time the battery was receiving supply for charging, shown by led on breakaway box. The breakaway battery unit does not receive a constant current to keep it charged from the Hilux. I have a small, ($2 on E-Bay), self-contained voltmeter in my battery compartment to check truck charging voltage during pre-departure hook-up.I have a problem with the electrical brake circuit on my plant trailer I cannot figure out. 1-48 of 52 results for 'trailer breakaway battery charger' Results Price and other details may vary based on product size and color. I would suggest that there should be no circuit breakers or fuses in the emergency braking current path to interfere with this vital emergency braking function. The main reason that this charging connection is there, is so that there is SOME charge in your battery for break-away emergency brake activation. See the chart on this page for how much time it takes the converter/charger in your trailer to recharge the battery fully: ![]() I agree with other posters that the charging current from the truck will not quickly replenish a battery. From what Im seeing I dont think you have the breakaway switch connected properly. Are you SURE that your truck's charging voltage is NOT reaching the battery? A pair voltmeter checks at the battery with first the truck disconnected from the trailer (and the trailer disconnected from shore power), then the truck connected to the trailer with the truck motor running should give you the data you need: The 2nd measurement should be higher than the first if your truck's charging current is getting to the trailer battery. ![]()
